A nationwide survey conducted last year with approximately 60,000 men and women aged 6 to 79 examined exercise habits among individuals in their 20s and 30s. The study compared those who had participated in sports clubs during high school or university with those who had not.
The results revealed that 50.5% of former club members reported exercising at least once a week, compared to just 33.1% of individuals without such experience. Fitness test scores also highlighted a significant difference between the two groups. Among respondents aged 25 to 29, former sports club members scored nearly seven points higher on average than those who had never participated, with this trend observed in both men and women.
However, the gap in fitness scores tends to narrow with age. The agency conducting the survey noted that people with a history of regular exercise generally remain more confident about their physical abilities. Despite this, they cautioned that physical strength inevitably declines over time.
As a result, the agency urged continued attention to health and fitness throughout life to help maintain wellbeing and physical capability.
