Quantic Dream, the studio behind acclaimed narrative games such as *Heavy Rain* and *Detroit: Become Human*, has confirmed that it is working on a competitive multiplayer video game. This marks a significant shift for the studio, which has historically focused exclusively on single-player, story-driven experiences.
David Cage, the founder of Quantic Dream, shared an update in a letter to fans, revealing that the team is exploring “a competitive multiplayer experience.” He acknowledges that this new direction is a big departure but emphasizes that taking risks, challenging themselves, and exploring new ways of playing and storytelling have always been part of the studio’s DNA.
In the same letter, Cage also touched on *Star Wars: Eclipse* — an upcoming narrative game announced in 2021. While no new details were provided, he confirmed that development on *Eclipse* is still ongoing, keeping fans hopeful for more updates in the future.
Quantic Dream’s move into multiplayer joins a growing list of major developers embracing the multiplayer genre in today’s increasingly live-service driven industry. Notably, last year Rocksteady Games made a similar pivot with their title *Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League*.
With this new direction, Quantic Dream aims to expand its creative horizons and offer players fresh and engaging experiences beyond their traditional narrative roots.
