Private Equity Survives Its UK Veterinary Examination

Two years ago, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched a comprehensive review of the £6.3 billion ($8.5 billion) UK veterinary sector. This investigation was prompted by growing concerns that large private equity-owned veterinary groups were overcharging pet owners.

This week, the CMA proposed a series of reforms aimed at making pet care more competitive and affordable. While the intentions behind these measures are commendable, the conclusions and recommended remedies fall short of expectations.

As the veterinary industry continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether these proposed changes will effectively address the challenges faced by pet owners across the UK.
