A Glenview man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of another man, whom Niles police say was a friend.
Markus Horenberger, 52, of the 500 block of Cherry Lane in Glenview, is facing a felony involuntary manslaughter charge. Authorities allege that he fatally shot Robert Reiling, 60, of the 8400 block of North Greenwood in Niles, in the head.
Horenberger was scheduled to appear in court Saturday morning.
According to a Niles Police Department news release, police were called around 5:40 p.m. to a home in the 8400 block of North Greenwood on a report of a man with a gun and shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Reiling had been shot and was pronounced dead on site.
An autopsy conducted by the Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed that Reiling was shot in the head, and his death has been ruled a homicide.
Niles Deputy Police Chief Thomas Fragassi told Pioneer Press that the two men were friends. Police have described the incident as isolated, emphasizing that there is no threat to the public.
