**Tragic Accident on I-40 Westbound in Durham County Claims One Life, Injures Another**

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — A fatal accident on I-40 westbound early Sunday morning resulted in the death of a woman and left her sister injured in Durham County.

Around 4:45 a.m., Bridjette Basden, 24, of Kernersville, pulled over on the left side of the interstate near Page Road to switch driving duties with her sister, Asrael Basden.

While both sisters were standing outside their Ford Fusion, which was partially in the roadway, they were struck by a 2003 Toyota Camry. The Camry, traveling in the far-left lane, also collided with the Ford. It then veered to the right and was subsequently struck by a 2021 Toyota Camry traveling in the second lane from the left.

Authorities confirmed that Bridjette Basden was killed in the crash. Her sister, Asrael Basden, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

As of now, no charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing. All westbound lanes of I-40 were closed for several hours as authorities conducted the on-scene investigation.
