Jensen Huang throws shade at ‘policy makers’ over NVIDIA (NVDA) exit from China

According to NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, the company is now out of the Chinese AI market. This exit is certainly not by choice. The Chinese market remains one of the most booming and profitable markets worldwide, but ongoing trade war policies between the US and China have forced companies like NVIDIA to navigate a challenging landscape.

As the US government, under former President Trump, attempts to bring manufacturing back to the United States through tough trade measures, NVIDIA found itself caught in the crossfire. For the company, this meant ending its current business operations in China.

Huang expressed his frustrations during Citadel Securities’ Future of Global Markets 2025 conference, as reported by Wccftech. He revealed that the political turmoil has forced NVIDIA to walk away from a massive overseas opportunity.

NVIDIA has been severely impacted by the trade war between the US and China on both fronts. In April 2025, the US government imposed new export restrictions on NVIDIA’s H20 AI chips that were being sold to China. This move alone cost the company an additional $5.5 billion in revenue.

Despite these setbacks, NVIDIA attempted to salvage the situation. Several Chinese customers managed to obtain licenses to buy its AI chips. Unfortunately, shortly afterward, the Chinese government issued guidance to Chinese companies advising them not to purchase NVIDIA’s AI chips. This effectively halted NVIDIA’s business dealings in the country—for the time being.
