OpenAI ‘improving Sora 2 guardrails’ again after Bryan Cranston’s likeness used without permission

OpenAI’s Sora 2 video generation platform continues to face criticism for unlicensed use of copyrighted materials and likenesses of famous individuals. The latest controversy involves media star Bryan Cranston, who objected to representations of himself created without permission on the platform.

After filing a formal complaint with the SAG-AFTRA organization, Bryan Cranston received support from the union, which publicly announced on social media that it had been in contact with OpenAI to address the issue. In response, OpenAI has stated it will continue to “strengthen” Sora 2’s “guardrails” to prevent the unlicensed use of famous characters and intellectual property.

Following this, OpenAI agreed to block depictions of Bryan Cranston without his consent in Sora 2.

Since its launch just a few weeks ago, Sora 2 has garnered significant attention for its impressive ability to generate AI-driven videos based on any prompt. However, the platform’s rushed release has also sparked several issues related to copyrighted content.

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) has publicly condemned the program for using the likenesses of actors without authorization. Despite this, the platform has continued to face challenges, including unlicensed depictions of notable figures such as Martin Luther King Jr.

As Sora 2 evolves, OpenAI’s commitment to enhancing its content safeguards will be crucial in addressing these ongoing concerns about intellectual property rights and likeness usage.
