OpenAI signs deal with PayPal to let users link wallets to ChatGPT for transactions

ChatGPT is set to make it easier for users with PayPal accounts to buy and sell products and services directly through the platform. PayPal and OpenAI have announced a new partnership that will allow users to link their PayPal wallets to ChatGPT, streamlining transactions and enhancing the overall commerce experience.

The integration and its benefits are expected to be available in early 2026. This development was revealed by PayPal in a press release published on its newsroom website earlier this week.

As part of the collaboration, PayPal will adopt the “Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP)” to connect its payment and commerce systems with ChatGPT. This will enable seamless transactions within the ChatGPT environment.

For merchants using ChatGPT to sell goods or services, PayPal will also integrate its merchant network. This means small businesses and brands will be able to conduct transactional business directly on the platform, opening up new opportunities for growth.

PayPal President and CEO, Alex Chriss, highlighted that this partnership represents a significant opportunity to expand PayPal’s merchant and commerce markets into a vibrant and active ecosystem. This move positions PayPal at the forefront of the evolving landscape of AI-driven commerce.
