Kayla Nicole’s Halloween Costume Is Going Viral Because Everyone Thinks She’s Shading Taylor Swift

Kayla Nicole’s Halloween costume may or may not have just thrown some major shade at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
As you’re likely aware, Kayla previously dated Travis from 2017 to 2022. A year after they split, Travis famously began dating Taylor Swift, to whom he is now engaged.
Since then, Kayla has been candid about the harassment she has faced from “miserable” trolls — presumably Swifties — which has included unfair criticism for celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles’ win against Travis’s team at the 2025 Super Bowl.
Unfortunately, the drama has continued, with Taylor herself seemingly joining the discourse through pointed lyrics on her October album, The Life of the Showgirl.
The Possible Taylor Swift Reference
Taylor appears to reference Kayla in the song “Opalite,” reflecting on Travis’s past relationships. She sings:
“You couldn’t understand it, why you felt alone / You were in it for real, she was in her phone,”
The lyrics seemingly allude to internet comments about how attached Kayla was to her phone during her relationship with Travis.
Kayla appeared to respond to Taylor’s lyrics at the time through a cryptic Instagram repost. And on Friday, she seemed to share another message through her Halloween costume.
Kayla’s Halloween Costume: Toni Braxton Vibes With a Message
This year, Kayla dressed up as Toni Braxton, recreating the singer’s iconic fringe dress look from her “He Wasn’t Man Enough” music video. She captioned the post:
“She’s an icon. She’s a legend. She’s @tonibraxton circa 2000. #Halloween25.”
But it’s the lyrics Kayla danced to that make the post seem even shadier.
She shared a snippet of the part where Toni Braxton specifically calls out her ex’s new woman, singing:
“What are you thinking? / Did you know about us back then? / Do you know I dumped your husband, girlfriend? / I’m not thinking ’bout him / But you married him / Do you know I made him leave? / Do you know he begged to stay with me? / He wasn’t man enough for me.”
Yeah, people thought it was definitely shade.
Fans React to Kayla’s Shade
One fan commented, “The shade is real 😂.” Another person said, “LMFAOOOOOOOOO SCREAM INTO THE MIC KAYLA. The level of petty, slayage, and pure decimation needs to be studied.”
A third comment read in part, “Will the real showgirl step to the front!!!!! This is too good!” while another shared, “But also, we heard THE MESSAGE.”
