Cowboys’ Dak Prescott Urges ‘Immediate Impact’ Trade Deadline Move

There was a football game played on Monday night in Dallas, which was easy to overlook given the ramshackle way the Cowboys played in losing to the previously 2-5 Cardinals. Dallas got little going on offense, allowing quarterback Dak Prescott to be sacked five times, and the defense couldn’t rein in backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, leading to a lifeless 27-17 loss.

But owner Jerry Jones was the star of the show. With a national TV game coming on the day before the NFL trade deadline—a day on which Jones has promised to deliver the Cowboys some help—his comments grabbed headlines. Jones told Stephen A. Smith’s Sirius/XM radio show that the Cowboys already had a deal in place, though he did not name the player.

“We certainly have made a trade and we may make a couple more trades before that deadline,” Jones said, before later appearing to retract that statement, saying, “There is not trade as of now.”

### Cowboys Need ‘Big Value Guy’ at NFL Trade Deadline

Amid all the confusion, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott took the podium for his postgame interview and seemed eager for Dallas and Jones to make the big move. Prescott recalled acquiring Amari Cooper in 2018.

“Especially if it is a big value guy, a guy you know is going to come in and make a difference and have an immediate impact. It can do so much good,” Prescott said. “I have been a part of one of those. It was Amari Cooper, right? We got him going into the bye week and we were able to get something going a few weeks later.”

### Cowboys Hoping for 2nd-Half Run After Trade Deadline

The hope for the 3-5-1 Cowboys is that something similar will take place at this NFL trade deadline—that a piece, maybe two, can be added that changes the trajectory of the rest of the season. The Cowboys were 3-5 after Cooper’s debut in 2018 but won eight of their next nine games from there.

Prescott said that the possibility of that kind of run remains in front of the Cowboys, who are only two games behind the Eagles in the NFC East standings.

### Dak Prescott ‘Frustrated’ After Week 9

But Prescott was, no doubt, frustrated by the play of the Cowboys on Monday. The team has struggled to stay consistent but had not played poorly for two weeks in a row in the first two months of the season. That changed in Week 9.

“Very disappointing, disappointing and very frustrating,” Prescott said. “Knowing that you’re better than that and not putting on a performance to your standards or what you thought you could do, and expected to do against this team. That’s the beauty of the NFL. Games, plays, stats, none of that is done on paper. You have to go out and earn it that night with everything taken into account.

“They kicked our [expletive]. Both sides of the ball.”
