Mike Macdonald can’t wait to add Rashid Shaheed into Seahawks offense

Things in the Pacific Northwest are about to get more interesting after the Seattle Seahawks traded for Rashid Shaheed. Now, the Seahawks offense has a new weapon to help boost their attack.

Coach Mike Macdonald expressed his excitement about the trade and the addition of Shaheed as a wide receiver, as reported by ESPN’s Seahawks beat writer Brady Henderson. “Our type of guy,” Macdonald said of Shaheed. “The speed’s real, making plays down the field. Absolutely felt like he was a great player.”

Macdonald also emphasized the importance of bringing in a player who fits the team culture, stating that he felt Shaheed was a perfect fit. This acquisition marks the second time Shaheed will play under offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who coached him last season with the New Orleans Saints.

In addition to his role as a wide receiver, Macdonald highlighted that Shaheed will be a key part of Seattle’s return team. Tory Horton will continue to handle punt returns, while Shaheed will focus on kickoff returns. Shaheed’s Pro Bowl selection in 2023 for his work as a return specialist brings valuable speed and versatility to the Hawks.

Shaheed adds a speed element that Seattle previously lacked. Currently, Jaxon Smith-Njigba leads the team with 58 receptions for 948 yards and four touchdowns. Cooper Kupp has 24 catches for 293 yards and one score but is currently dealing with an injury.

Tight end AJ Barner has been solid this season with 21 receptions for 236 yards and four touchdowns. Tory Horton has 13 catches for 161 yards, but notably, five of those receptions have resulted in touchdowns.

Due to Kupp’s injury, the Seahawks needed another weapon they could utilize—especially as they aim to keep pace with division rivals the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West.

With upcoming games against the Arizona Cardinals and Rams over the next two weeks, the Seahawks need all the resources they can get to overcome these challenges. Shaheed provides Seattle with a dynamic return specialist while also serving as a deep threat in the passing game, making him a valuable addition to the team.
