Fox News host Trey Gowdy suggested on Wednesday that Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) and her latest “psychotic episode” are contributing to the GOP’s inability to unite and effectively defend President Donald Trump’s agenda.
This comment comes in the wake of a severe setback for Republicans in this week’s elections, as Democrats claimed significant victories in state and local races across Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and other key areas.
“Do not get distracted,” Gowdy urged. “I mean, you look at the headlines recently… you’ve got an apoplectic congresswoman who’s having a psychotic episode in Charleston, at an airport. You’ve got this debate over white nationalism. I think Trump is saying Republicans quit talking about all of that. Start talking about the best 10 months any president has ever had in our history, and maybe we have a chance in the midterms.”
Rep. Nancy Mace has a long history of public meltdowns and controversial stunts. Recently, she has spent several days reacting strongly to an incident at Charleston International Airport involving TSA officers. Mace called the TSA agents “incompetent,” claimed they endangered her safety, and threatened to sue over allegedly falsified incident reports.
She also asserted that the TSA would never have treated Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) in the same manner, a claim that prompted the senator to issue a scathing rebuke of Mace’s behavior.
This is not the first time Mace has clashed with Trey Gowdy, who also served as a South Carolina representative. During her recent campaign against LGBTQ rights, Mace went as far as to suggest that Gowdy could be transgender, further highlighting the tensions between the two politicians.
