Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage devs on the release & bridging the gap to the next game

This past week, Sega and Ryo Ga Gotoku Studio released *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* on consoles and PC. This new version brings the rollback netcode from REVO’s PC edition to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, introduces crossplay, adds Dural as a playable character in the base roster, and expands stage selection. Additionally, a new offline mode has been included, allowing players to challenge themselves against a computer-controlled gauntlet in an engaging single-player quest.

By all accounts, *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* might be the final chapter of VF5 before Sega moves forward with the next big project in the franchise. To learn more about the release, ongoing support, community feedback, and what’s next as the series transitions to a new generation, we spoke with Seiji Aoki.

### Meeting Community Requests Head-On

One of the major additions in *World Stage* is a proper single-player mode. While Virtua Fighter 5 has featured an arcade mode, fans long desired a more extensive solo experience. This had been a consistent request throughout the game’s lifetime.

“Up until now, we have been receiving comments that they would like a more in-depth single-player mode,” Aoki shared. “Before, the Quest mode was very popular, and a lot of people have been wanting that back. On our official Discord and X, we were receiving a lot of comments like that. So that’s why we decided to create this new World Stage mode. We’ve been trying to listen to those voices, and that’s how we’ve been progressing with creating new elements for the game.”

Delivering the game across multiple platforms was another key priority for the team. The original *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO* was released exclusively on PC, which narrowed the player base, despite previous versions appearing on consoles.

“Other people will be able to play on other platforms as well,” Aoki added. “It’s available on PS5, Xbox, and Steam this time. It used to be only on Steam, so we had people who were not able to play because they were on other platforms. But now that it’s also on Xbox and PS5 alongside Steam, I hope that a lot more people will be able to play the game.”

### Community Feedback via Discord

Discord has served as a crucial platform for the developers, acting as a North Star for understanding player desires and suggestions. Their community has been constructive in providing feedback and sharing how they want the game to evolve.

For Aoki, who originally worked on the arcade titles, adjusting to the lack of direct in-person feedback from console and Steam players was initially a challenge. However, as the team grew and adapted to new gaming trends, it became easier to collect and implement feedback in different ways.

“Thanks to the fans,” Aoki explained, “we have been able to establish an environment where good communications are done between the developers and the users, and we’re able to plan based on direct feedback.”

### Preparing for the New Generation

Looking ahead, the big question on every fan’s mind is about the next *Virtua Fighter* installment. Although Sega and Ryo Ga Gotoku Studio have confirmed the game is in development, there’s no word on a release date yet. Their goal remains clear: to make sure the new title feels right, maintaining the core Virtua Fighter identity while evolving the brand.

Until then, *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* carries the important role of keeping the franchise fresh and exciting.

“The new Virtua Fighter isn’t out, so it’s been a very long time since the last game was released,” Aoki said. “And that’s why I’m happy that I’m able to release this new World Stage version of the game at this time. I also want to say thank you to the fans, because without the fans, we wouldn’t be able to release this new version. So, thank you very much.”

*Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, offering players across platforms a revitalized fighting experience and a bridge to the franchise’s next generation.
