Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage devs on the release & bridging the gap to the next game

This past week, Sega and Ryo Ga Gotoku Studio released **Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage** on consoles and PC. This update brought the rollback netcode from REVO’s PC version to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, introduced crossplay, made Dural playable in the base roster, and added stage selection. Additionally, a new offline mode allows players to test themselves against a computer-controlled gauntlet in a fresh single-player quest.

By all accounts, this could be the final chapter of Virtua Fighter 5 before Sega’s next big project in the franchise. To learn more, we spoke with Seiji Aoki about the release, ongoing support, community feedback, and what lies ahead as the series transitions into a new generation.

### Meeting Community Requests Head-On

One of the biggest additions to **World Stage** is a proper single-player mode. While Virtua Fighter 5 has featured an arcade mode, it lacked an extensive single-player experience — something that fans have been requesting for a long time.

“Up until now we have been receiving comments that they would like a more in-depth single-player mode,” Aoki told us. “Before, the Quest mode was very popular. A lot of people have been wanting that back. On our official Discord and X, we were receiving a lot of comments like that. So that’s why we decided to create this new World Stage mode. We’ve been trying to listen to those voices and that’s how we’ve been progressing with creating new elements for the game.”

Releasing **Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage** across multiple platforms was also a priority. The original REVO was a PC-only release, which limited the player base despite previous Virtua Fighter 5 versions being available on consoles.

“Other people will be able to play on other platforms as well,” Aoki added. “It’s available on PS5, Xbox, and Steam this time. It used to be only on Steam, so we had people who were not able to play because they were on other platforms. But now that it’s also on Xbox and PS5 alongside Steam, I hope that a lot more people will be able to play the game.”

Discord, in particular, has served as a valuable communication channel between the developers and the community. Aoki, who originally worked on the arcade versions, found the shift to console and PC feedback — which is less direct and in-person — a bit jarring at first. However, the team has adapted and embraced new ways to gather and implement player feedback.

“Thanks to the fans,” Aoki explained, “we have been able to establish an environment where good communication happens between the developers and the users, and we’re able to plan based on direct feedback.”

### Preparing for a New Generation

The much-anticipated next entry in the Virtua Fighter franchise is currently in development, and many fans are eagerly awaiting news. Though the release date remains unknown, Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have emphasized their commitment to preserving the authentic Virtua Fighter feel while evolving the brand.

Until then, **Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage** carries the responsibility of keeping the series fresh and exciting — a role Aoki takes seriously.

“The new Virtua Fighter isn’t out, so it’s been a very long time since the last game was released,” Aoki said. “And that’s why I’m happy that I’m able to release this new World Stage version of the game at this time. I also want to say thank you to the fans, because without the fans, we wouldn’t be able to release this new version. So, thank you very much.”

With this release, Sega continues to honor the legacy of Virtua Fighter while setting the stage for the franchise’s future. Fans old and new now have even more reasons to dive into this classic fighting experience one last time before the next generation arrives.
