Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage devs on the release & bridging the gap to the next game

This past week, Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio released *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* on consoles and PC. This update brought the rollback netcode from REVO’s PC version to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, introduced crossplay, and made Dural playable in the base roster and stage selection. Additionally, a new offline mode was added, allowing players to test themselves against a computer-controlled gauntlet in a fresh single-player quest.

By all accounts, this might be the final chapter of *Virtua Fighter 5* before the next big installment Sega is working on. To get a closer look at the release, its support, community feedback, and what lies ahead as the franchise transitions to a new generation, we spoke with Seiji Aoki.

### Meeting Community Requests Head-On

One of the significant additions in *World Stage* is the introduction of a proper single-player mode. While *Virtua Fighter 5* has had an arcade mode, it lacked an extensive single-player experience—a feature fans have requested for a long time.

“Up until now, we have been receiving comments that they would like a more in-depth single-player mode,” Aoki explained. “Before, the Quest mode was very popular. A lot of people have been wanting that back. On our official Discord and X, we were receiving a lot of comments like that. So that’s why we decided to create this new World Stage mode. We’ve been trying to listen to those voices, and that’s how we’ve been progressing with creating new elements for the game.”

Delivering a multiplatform release was also a priority this time. The original *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO* was exclusive to PC, limiting the player base despite earlier versions of *Virtua Fighter 5* being available on consoles.

“Other people will be able to play on other platforms as well,” Aoki added. “It’s available on PS5, Xbox, and Steam this time. It used to be only on Steam, so we had people who were not able to play because they were on other platforms. But now that it’s also on Xbox and PS5 alongside Steam, I hope that a lot more people will be able to play the game.”

Discord, more than any other platform, has served as a guiding light for the developers. The community’s constructive feedback has helped shape the game’s development.

For Aoki, who previously worked on the arcade version of the game, adapting to indirect feedback from consoles and Steam initially felt unfamiliar. However, as the team evolved, they embraced new ways to communicate with fans and incorporate their suggestions.

“Thanks to the fans,” Aoki said, “we have been able to establish an environment where good communication happens between developers and users, allowing us to plan based on direct feedback.”

### Preparing for the New Generation

A major topic among fans is the next *Virtua Fighter* game, which is currently in development. While excitement is high, there’s no confirmed release date yet.

Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have emphasized that their goal is to ensure the next entry stays true to the essence of *Virtua Fighter* even as it evolves the brand.

Until then, *Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* plays a crucial role in keeping the franchise fresh and engaging—a responsibility that Aoki embraces with respect.

“The new *Virtua Fighter* isn’t out, so it’s been a very long time since the last game was released,” Aoki reflected. “That’s why I’m happy to release this new World Stage version at this time. I also want to say thank you to the fans, because without them, we wouldn’t be able to release this new version. So, thank you very much.”

*Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage* is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, offering fans old and new a refreshed experience while paving the way for the franchise’s next evolution.
