**Russian Drone Attack Hits Residential Building in Eastern Ukraine, Killing Three**
*KYIV, Ukraine* — A Russian drone struck a tower block in eastern Ukraine early Saturday while many residents were asleep, killing three people and injuring 12 others, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attack occurred in Dnipro, Ukraine’s fourth-largest city, amid a widespread Russian missile and drone barrage targeting the country’s energy infrastructure.
In eastern Ukraine, fierce fighting around the strategic city of Pokrovsk has reached a critical phase. Both Kyiv and Moscow are attempting to convince U.S. President Donald Trump that they can achieve victory on the battlefield.
Russia launched a total of 458 drones and 45 missiles during the assault, including 32 ballistic missiles. Ukrainian forces successfully shot down and neutralized 406 drones and nine missiles, the air force reported, although 25 locations were still struck.
Due to the attacks, authorities switched off power in several regions, Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk said in a Facebook post.
The nine-story building in Dnipro caught fire after the drone impact, destroying several apartments. Emergency services reported the recovery of three bodies, and among the injured were two children.
Nearly four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion, the country continues to bombard Ukraine with near-daily drone and missile strikes, resulting in numerous civilian casualties. The Kremlin insists that its strikes target only sites linked to Kyiv’s military efforts.
Russia’s Defense Ministry stated Saturday that the nighttime raids hit military and energy facilities that support Ukrainian forces.
Moscow and Kyiv have engaged in almost daily attacks on each other’s energy infrastructure, with little effect from U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to end the prolonged conflict.
Ukraine has been conducting long-range drone strikes on Russian oil refineries, aiming to deprive Moscow of critical export revenues needed to sustain the war effort.
Conversely, Russia seeks to cripple Ukraine’s power grid to deny civilians access to heat, electricity, and running water—a tactic Kyiv officials describe as an attempt to “weaponize winter.”
In southern Russia’s Volgograd region, Russian forces repelled a “massive” overnight strike on energy facilities, Governor Andrei Bocharov reported Saturday, two days after Ukraine claimed to have targeted a key oil refinery there with long-range drones.
Bocharov noted the strike caused power outages in parts of the region’s northwest but resulted in no casualties. There was no immediate response from Kyiv.
Russia’s Defense Ministry added that its forces shot down 82 Ukrainian drones overnight, including eight over the Volgograd region.
In the neighboring Saratov region, two people were injured after a Ukrainian drone strike shattered windows in an apartment block, according to Governor Roman Busarin.
Pokrovsk lies along the eastern front line within the “fortress belt” of Donetsk—a series of heavily fortified cities essential to Ukraine’s defense of the region. Analysts suggest the city could influence Washington’s stance and potentially sway peace negotiations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin claims his forces are close to victory. As a precondition for peace, he demands that Ukraine cede control of the Donbas region, composed of Donetsk and neighboring Luhansk—one of his primary war objectives.
