Apple’s mistake leads to an incredible deal on this accessory for a few buyers

Spotted first by 9to5Toys on Friday, Apple’s website listed a 4-pack of Apple AirTags at the incredible price of just $29. This represented a whopping 70% discount off the regular price of $99 for the 4-pack — and was even cheaper than Amazon’s pricing, which offered four AirTags for $64.

Quick-thinking consumers who noticed the pricing error took advantage of what many assumed was a great Apple sale. The online Apple Store showed the 4-pack at $29, while a single AirTag was still listed at $29. This pricing discrepancy raised immediate suspicions.

On one hand, you could pay $29 for a single AirTag, or spend the same amount to get four item trackers. Naturally, most shoppers would choose the 4-pack, as it provided three additional tags for no extra cost.

As it turned out, the $29 price for the 4-pack was a mistake. Apple quickly corrected the pricing on its website and began canceling purchases made at the incorrect price just a few hours later. The company advised customers who ordered the 4-pack for $29 to check their order status. Notably, delivery dates for these orders were pushed back to early December, indicating strong demand at the mistakenly low price.

It’s hard to say exactly how many 4-packs Apple sold at this price. However, considering the delivery delays stretching from late November to early December, Apple likely faced a significant potential loss of revenue.

Some customers might wonder if Apple had the right to cancel these orders. According to the legal terms on the Apple Store Purchase Policies page, Apple “reserves the right to change prices for products at the Apple Store at any time, and to correct inadvertent pricing errors.” This clause gave Apple the authority to cancel some orders and adjust others from $29 back to the regular $99 price.

Additionally, the policy states that Apple “may refuse or cancel any order or limit order quantity.” With these rights in place, Apple was well within its legal bounds to manage the situation as it did.

That said, some customers managed to receive their 4-pack AirTags at the discounted price. They rushed to pick up orders in-store or used courier services to take delivery before Apple realized the mistake.

For those who missed out on the accidental discount, there is a silver lining: the upcoming AirTags 2 (code-named B589). This next-generation model is rumored to include support for the second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip — the same chip found in the iPhone 15 and later models.

The new UWB chip is expected to triple the range of the AirTag’s Precision Finding feature, extending it to 30–90 meters (98 to 295 feet). This improvement should make it much easier to locate missing or lost items in larger spaces such as parks, parking garages, and airport terminals.

With the holiday shopping season approaching and rumors of a new AirTag model on the horizon, it wouldn’t be surprising to see official price adjustments from Apple soon. Until then, shoppers will just have to keep an eye on the Apple Store for the next great deal.
