At 37 years of age, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford continues to perform at an elite level, maintaining the high standards he has set throughout most of his 17-year NFL career.
During the first half of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, Stafford reached a significant career milestone that only a handful of truly elite quarterbacks in NFL history have ever accomplished.
The Rams offense wasted no time in asserting their dominance, scoring touchdowns on their first three offensive drives to build a commanding 21-0 lead. Two of these touchdowns came via Stafford’s precise passing, connecting with Puka Nacua in the first quarter and Davis Allen in the second quarter.
The touchdown pass to Allen marked a landmark moment in Stafford’s illustrious career—this was his 400th career passing touchdown.
Stafford has often been overlooked in conversations about the NFL’s elite quarterbacks. However, this milestone firmly establishes him in that elite group, especially when considering the other legendary names who have reached 400 passing touchdowns.
The former Super Bowl champion is now just the ninth quarterback in NFL history to reach this milestone, joining the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, and Dan Marino.
While this career accomplishment is undoubtedly significant for Stafford, securing a win over the 49ers on Sunday would likely mean even more.
This season, the NFC West has been one of the most competitive divisions in football. Heading into Week 10, the Rams, 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks all held six wins. With a victory over the 49ers, the Rams would at least be tied for the division lead.
As the teams headed into halftime with the Rams up 21-7, it remained to be seen if Los Angeles could maintain their lead and continue their push toward the top of the division.
