This week marks a big moment for gaming in South Korea as the country’s biggest game conference, G-Star 2025, kicked off in grand fashion. One of the standout announcements came with an unexpected step forward for PlayStation’s Horizon franchise.
Publisher NCSoft is teaming up with Horizon developer Guerrilla Games to craft an MMORPG set in the game’s universe, titled *Horizon Steel Frontiers*. This new MMORPG will take players back to the Deadlands, blending the series’ signature action and hunting mechanics with standard MMORPG gameplay.
*Horizon Steel Frontiers* promises an expansion of the game’s combat system, customizable characters, and broader worlds to explore. Players can expect to encounter more of the titanic mechanical creatures that have made the Horizon world so captivating. Some of these encounters will lead to large-scale battles where multiple hunters will cooperate to take down massive foes.
This collaboration is not the first time PlayStation has expanded the Horizon universe; previous ventures include a VR game and even a LEGO game. However, few companies are better suited for an MMORPG project than Korea-based NCSoft, a publisher well-known for handling ArenaNet’s *Guild Wars 2*.
At G-Star 2025, NCSoft also showcased an impressive portfolio including *AION 2*, *Cinder City*, and *Limit Breakers Zero*. *Horizon Steel Frontiers* is being developed for both PC—playable through NCSoft’s PURPLE platform—and mobile devices.
While there is no official word on the release date yet, *Horizon Steel Frontiers* is definitely a title to watch. We’ll be keeping a close eye on its development here at Shacknews.
