The Indian cricket team will be without their star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for the upcoming two-match home Test series against West Indies, scheduled to start on October 2 in Ahmedabad, according to ESPNcricinfo.

### Injury and Rehabilitation

Pant is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after suffering a fractured left foot during India’s tour of England in July. The injury occurred during the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in Manchester, where Pant limped out to bat in the first innings. He was subsequently replaced by N Jagadeesan for the final Test at The Oval.

At the moment, Pant is focused on strength and conditioning exercises to aid his recovery under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. However, there is no fixed timeline for his return to batting and keeping duties as he awaits further medical updates.

### Impact on the Squad

In Pant’s absence, Dhruv Jurel is expected to take over wicketkeeping responsibilities for the West Indies series. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is set to announce a 15-member squad on September 23 or 24 — two fewer than the 17-player squad selected for last October’s New Zealand Tests.

The selectors are also likely to consider promising players such as Nitish Kumar Reddy and Devdutt Padikkal for the upcoming series.

### Series Context and Future Fixtures

The two Tests against West Indies will count towards the World Test Championship (WTC). India currently sits third on the WTC table after a closely contested 2-2 draw in the five-match series against England. West Indies are positioned sixth, having lost all three of their matches played so far in the championship.

Following the West Indies Tests, India is scheduled to play a white-ball series in Australia starting October 19.

### Outlook

Despite the absence of Rishabh Pant, the Indian team is expected to maintain dominance in the upcoming series against West Indies, showcasing their depth and resilience.

Stay tuned for the official squad announcement and further updates on Rishabh Pant’s recovery.
