The Indian cricket team will be without their star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad, according to reports from ESPNcricinfo.

### Injury and Rehabilitation

Pant is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after suffering a fractured left foot during India’s tour of England in July. The injury occurred during the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in Manchester. Despite the fracture, Pant limped out to bat in the first innings but was later replaced by N Jagadeesan for the final Test at The Oval.

At present, Pant is focusing on strength and conditioning exercises as part of his recovery process under the supervision of the BCCI medical team.

### Uncertain Timeline for Return

There is no confirmed timeline for Pant’s return to the field. He remains under medical evaluation, and updates on his batting and wicketkeeping comeback will be announced in due course by the BCCI.

Following the West Indies Test series, India is set to tour Australia for a white-ball series starting October 19, a contest Pant may also miss depending on his recovery progress.

### Team Adjustments and Squad Announcement

In Pant’s absence, young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel is expected to take over the gloves for the West Indies series.

The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is scheduled to announce the 15-member squad for the Test series on either September 23 or 24. This squad will be smaller by two players compared to the one picked for India’s last home Test series against New Zealand in October last year.

Among the likely considerations for inclusion are promising players Nitish Kumar Reddy and Devdutt Padikkal.

### World Test Championship Implications

The two-Test series against the West Indies will contribute points toward the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC).

India currently stands third on the WTC table, having drawn their recent five-match series against England 2-2. The West Indies are positioned sixth after losing all three of their matches to date.

### Outlook

Despite the absence of Rishabh Pant, the Indian cricket team is expected to maintain its dominance over the West Indies in the forthcoming Test series.

Stay tuned for squad updates and further news on Rishabh Pant’s recovery as the series approaches.
