The Indian cricket team will be without their star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad, according to ESPNcricinfo.

### Injury and Rehabilitation

Pant is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after suffering a fractured left foot during India’s tour of England in July. He sustained the injury during the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England in Manchester. Despite limping out to bat in the first innings, Pant was eventually replaced by N Jagadeesan for the final Test at The Oval.

At the Centre of Excellence, Pant is focusing on strength and conditioning exercises as part of his recovery process.

### Uncertain Return Timeline

There is no fixed timeline for Pant’s return to both batting and wicketkeeping duties, as he awaits further updates from the BCCI medical team. Following the West Indies series, India is scheduled to play a white-ball series in Australia from October 19.

In Pant’s absence, young wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel is expected to take over the gloves for the West Indies Tests.

### Squad Selection and Expectations

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will announce a 15-member squad for the West Indies series on September 23 or 24. This squad will be smaller by two players compared to the team selected for last October’s home Test series against New Zealand.

Selectors are likely to consider Nitish Kumar Reddy and Devdutt Padikkal for the series, adding fresh options to the squad.

### World Test Championship Context

The India-West Indies Tests form part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC). Currently, India sits third on the WTC points table after drawing a five-match series against England 2-2. Meanwhile, West Indies are placed sixth, having lost all three of their matches so far.

Despite the absence of Rishabh Pant, the Indian team is expected to dominate this upcoming Test series against the West Indies.
