Madame Web is an old woman in the comic books. The superhero Madame Web, whose real name is Cassandra Webb, is much older in the comic books than she is in the movie. In the comics, Madame Web is an elderly clairvoyant who is hooked up to so many life support machines that it looks like a web. She’s also blind. The film, however, creates an origin story for the superhero, in which she’s a woman in her 30s just discovering her future-seeing powers. Interestingly enough, this is not the first Marvel character to be de-aged. Both Agatha Harkness in WandaVision and Aunt May in Spider-Man: Homecoming are much younger than their comic book characters as well. 3. We get to see a younger version of Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben as well. 4. Madame Web’s name has links to Greek mythology. 5. No superhero names are used in the movie. 6. The script was rewritten multiple times, including once just before filming. 7. In fact, the entire timeline was even altered at one point to shift the setting from the 1990s to 2003. 8. Madame Web filmed using the code name “Claire.” 9. Because of Madame Web’s visions, scenes had to be filmed multiple times with exacting precision. 10. Dakota Johnson did most of her own stunt driving. 11. The film was set in 2003 so that it could feature “Toxic” by Britney Spears. 12. The Pepsi sign sequence was actually written for another movie. 13. Each of the three potential Spider-Woman characters wears their own comic book costume in the film. 14. Interestingly enough, Jessica Drew, the most famous Spider-Woman alias, is not in Madame Web. While Jessica Drew is the most recognizable Spider-Woman alter ego (you may recognize her from the Spider-Verse movies), she’s not featured in Madame Web. This may be due to a complicated legal deal between Sony and Marvel pertaining to the rights of the character. While Sony can depict Jessica Drew as Spider-Woman, Marvel can also depict her, so long as it’s not connected to Spider-Man. 15. Speaking of Spider-Man, Peter Parker makes an appearance at the end of the movie. 16. While Peter Parker’s mom makes an appearance, his dad is MIA. 17. Sydney Sweeney admitted that acting in Madame Web was a business decision. 18. Madame Web won three Razzie Awards. 19. Lastly, while there were originally plans for Madame Web 2, those have been scrapped. Stream Madame Web on Disney+.
