Bangladesh faces a potential setback ahead of their crucial Super Four clash against India as captain Litton Das suffered a back strain during a training session at the ICC Academy Ground on September 22.
The injury occurred when Litton experienced discomfort on the left side of his waist while attempting a square cut in the nets. He promptly withdrew from the session after being assessed by team physiotherapist Bayzid ul Islam.
### Medical Assessment Pending
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official informed Cricbuzz, “We will have a look at him (Litton) today because from outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call.” Despite the incident, Litton did not show any major signs of discomfort immediately afterward.
However, his possible absence would be a significant blow for Bangladesh.
### Leadership Void for Bangladesh
If Litton is ruled out, it would create a major leadership void for the team. The BCB has not yet appointed a deputy captain for the tournament, leaving uncertainty regarding who would lead the side in his absence.
Bangladesh began their Super Four campaign on a high note with a convincing victory over Sri Lanka, managing to navigate the initial injury scare involving their captain.
### Litton Das’ Performance in the Tournament
While Litton has played pivotal innings, he has sometimes struggled to convert promising starts into big scores. He made a match-winning 59 against Hong Kong in Bangladesh’s opener, followed by 28 against Sri Lanka. However, his subsequent outings saw him managing scores of nine against Afghanistan and 23 versus Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh will be hoping their captain recovers swiftly to lead the team against India and beyond in the Asia Cup.
