Maharashtra News: CBI Probes 2 Postal Officials Over ₹15.95 Lakh Misappropriation In Chandrapur RD Accounts

**CBI Initiates Probe Against Two Postal Officials for Misappropriation of Rs 15.95 Lakh in Chandrapur**

*Mumbai:* The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched an inquiry against two officials of the postal department for allegedly misappropriating Rs 15.95 lakh from 20 recurring deposit accounts held by various account holders at the Branch Office, Govindpur, Chandrapur Division.

**Complaint Filed by Postal Authorities**

According to CBI sources, a written complaint was received by the CBI Nagpur Branch from S. Ramakrishna, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Department of Post, Chandrapur. The complaint named a sub-postmaster from the Allapalli Sub Post Office, Chandrapur Division, and another official from the Govindpur Branch Office.

The complaint sought legal action against the two officials for allegedly misappropriating a sum of Rs 15.95 lakh from recurring deposit accounts of various customers at the Govindpur Branch Office.

**Alleged Criminal Conspiracy and Fraudulent Withdrawals**

A CBI official stated, “The complaint prima facie disclosed that during the period 2018-22, the accused persons, while working as public servants, conspired with each other. In furtherance of this conspiracy, the accused sub-postmaster allegedly prepared forged withdrawal slips bearing the false signatures of depositors of recurring deposit accounts at the Govindpur Branch Office.”

The forged slips were then sent to the co-accused for withdrawing amounts from RD accounts under the pretext of loans against deposits, pre-closures, and closures of RD accounts.

**Method of Misappropriation and Its Impact**

The official added, “The accused fraudulently processed such loans, pre-closures, and closures, and subsequently withdrew the amounts—deposits of RD accounts—either through the savings bank accounts of the RD account holders or in cash, using the forged signatures of depositors.”

They also dishonestly manipulated records at the Allapalli Sub Post Office and Govindpur Branch Office, including the department’s software, to hide their fraudulent withdrawals.

As a result, they misappropriated Rs 15.95 lakh, causing wrongful gain to themselves and a corresponding loss to the postal department.

The acts committed by the accused public servants constitute offences including criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust by a public servant, forgery, forgery of valuable security, forgery for the purpose of cheating, use of forged documents as genuine, and misappropriation of government funds.
