Sheriff’s office asking for help locating missing teen

**SALISBURY** – The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a teenager who has been missing since December 26, 2025.

Thirteen-year-old Johnathan Morales was first reported missing on December 29, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. Deputies were informed that Morales had been missing for three days at the time of the report.

Early in the investigation, authorities learned that Morales had spoken to a friend and mentioned that he was in the Gastonia area. However, he did not disclose his exact location or who he was with.

Investigators have been unable to determine the identity of anyone in Gastonia that Morales may know or be acquainted with.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for Morales with assistance from the FBI and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
