Chandigarh: The Punjab government has announced that it will provide two lakh quintals of wheat seeds, worth Rs 74 crore, free of cost to farmers who lost their crops during the recent floods.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that the food growers of the state have suffered significant losses in the floods. To support them, these wheat seeds will be distributed without any charge. He praised the hardworking and resilient farmers of Punjab for their crucial role in making the country self-sufficient in food production.

“The state government stands firmly with farmers in this hour of crisis,” Mann affirmed. The wheat seeds will be provided to affected farmers for the upcoming Rabi crop season.

The recent floods submerged over 2,300 villages, impacting more than 2 million people and destroying crops across five lakh acres of land. According to initial estimates, the total damage caused by the floods amounts to approximately Rs 13,800 crore, although the actual figure may be even higher.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to aid farmers in recovering from the unprecedented disaster.
